This is one gym group excercise I loved.
There are so many different types and ways of working out that even those who are averse to exercising (if they make the effort) will likely find something they’d enjoy.
If conventional exercises like running on the treadmill or weight-lifting is not for you, then why not try something a little different?
Body Combat is one such workout that will take you away from the humdrum of the usual. And not only that, you’ll leave the class feeling fierce!
WHAT'S BODY COMBAT?
As the name suggests, this workout is martial-arts inspired and incorporates many of the movements of martial arts – karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. This is a fiercely energetic class so don’t expect the instructor to go Karate Kid on you in a zen atmosphere; the classes are usually conducted along with pumping music so you’ll have a rocking time while kicking some imaginary butt!
WHY BODY COMBAT?
Body Combat is known to have a whole host of benefits.
It is an excellent workout for strengthening the core muscles, which in turn improves your posture and stability. You will be maximising calorie burn while you punch and kick your way through this cardio workout which incidentally, also makes you feel like you can take on the world - “You want a piece of me??”
Body Combat also improves heart and lung function, reduces the risks of heart disease, improves bone density, and tones and shapes key muscle groups. And if you’ve always wanted to work on your coordination and agility, then this workout may just be what you’ve been looking for.
CAN I DO IT?
Body Combat is no walk in the park but before you dismiss it, rest assured that classes are usually conducted with various fitness levels in mind. So whether you’re at beginner, intermediate or expert level, you should be able to find a class to suit your needs. And working out in a group usually brings out one’s competitive spirit so you would be more inclined to push yourself further.
On a more personal note, let me just say that I have tried Body Combat and it truly is an amazing workout. Did I feel like a martial arts expert? Hell no. Did I find it hard to keep up with the class? Well, like me, you may find some movements easier than others, for example punching may be a breeze but kicking difficult. It’s okay though, if you need to take a break, you just do and then rejoin the class when you’ve caught your breath. Yes, there were times when I did feel a little like an uncoordinated klutz but take comfort in the fact that everyone else around you is too engrossed in their workout to pay any attention to you.
All in all, it’s a very satisfying workout where you finish a class feeling accomplished and ready to take on the world! So give Body Combat a try if you’re on the lookout to add something new to your workout regime. And you’ll walk out of class feeling like a (sweaty) million bucks.
