MY SILLY AND COSTLY MISTAKE

I am one who will always update my software, be it my phone or laptop. Just a few weeks ago I saw this update notice on my mac. As usual I will click update without even thinking. In the past I had no problem and they usually get updated to the latest version. Unfortunately this time I was not that lucky. It hang halfway due to the internet connection .It just freeze and I tried countless of time ,but could not get it to work.I even tried as a last resort to use the cd that came with the mac when I made the purchase. It was a no go, so I took it to a Mac shop , near where I stayed, but unfortunately they said they only sell the machine and do not do any service. So in desperation I search on the net and manage to find a shop at Center point, Petaling Jaya. I spoke to the guy who picked up and phone and told him my problem and requested for a quote to reinstall the system and could get it up within an hour. He was able to answer me over the phone right away and that gave me the confidence to sent my laptop to the shop.  I drove reached the shop within half an hour and found the shop with no problem. Upon checking he informed me my battery has swelled up and it will cost me another huge sum of money. I had no choice but to agreed to have it replaced. All because I did something stupid to update my machine. Anyway on the hindsight, if I had not sent my mac to the shop I would not know my battery need to be replaced, which according to him could damage my laptop.
With all my files and some softwares I had on the machine wiped out, I had to start anew and reinstall , and have to test them out one by one. But I have fund experimenting especially with the watermark applications.

THE KID FROM BIG APPLE 2

Just saw the part 2 of The Kid from Big apple.  As expected there were quite a few teary moments and I have to wipe my eyes so many time. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie , as I did the first one. However the only disappointement was one of my favourite actress Jessica Hsuan did not reprise her role as sarah's mum. I love the scene where it shows the lattern of a revovling lantern make from metal tin. I did that when I was a kid. Brought back good old memories. Anyway there is a review taken the star.

It’s never too late to make amends or new memories together. In The Kid From The Big Apple 2: Before We Forget (TKFTBA2), we are reunited with the lovable Grandpa (Ti Lung) and his New York-born granddaughter Sarah (Tan Qin Lin).
In the first movie, the two got off to a rough start in a classic old school versus new school setting. Grandpa is too traditional with his fondness for chicken feet while Sarah prefers poultry in the form of fried nuggets. Eventually, they overcome their differences to become the best of friends. Nothing could come between these two, not even when Sarah has to go back to New York for school.
Unfortunately, there’s dementia. Sarah has to accept that her grandfather is losing his memories and she will eventually become a stranger to him.
TKFTBA2 tries to tell a delicate story about dementia by pressing on hope. We see a family preparing for a life with dementia instead of dwelling on the sadness that is to come.
Though we see heartbreaking scenes like Grandpa not remembering how to go home after he sneaked out to buy mooncakes, we never see Sarah or her mother Sophia (Debbie Goh) breaking down. Director Jess Teong somehow manages to deliver a story that dignifies Grandpa instead of letting audiences see him become a shell of his former self.
Credit also goes to Tan who plays 12-year-old Sarah. She is the ray of sunshine throughout what could have been a depressing movie as her character comes up with a myriad of ways to boost Grandpa’s memories.
Strangely, Sarah also never reacted negatively to her father (Shaun Tan) who is introduced for the first time in this movie. If you can’t recall, Sophia was pregnant when Sarah’s father abandoned her in New York. Whatever is fuelling this kid’s positive mindset, we could all use some of it.
That being said, TKFTBA2 also uses Grandpa’s dementia as a reason for Sophia to think about reconciling with her useless ex-boyfriend. Grandpa’s excuse was that he wants Sophia and Sarah to be a part of a complete family and I guess, he couldn’t think of anyone else to take on the role of a father figure.
As you would have guessed, TKFTBA2 focuses on heavier family issues this time around. There is more character development on Sophia the mum as she deals with father’s deteriorating memories and sort out her emotional past with the ex-boyfriend.
TKFTBA2 could have been a more memorable movie if it didn’t have to resort to one too many montages with different songs for its story to move along. A little bit more conversation would have been better for the viewers to feel the movie’s emotional impact. But alas, we have to be content with somewhat cheesy snippets of smiles and laughter through a number of piano ballads.

FINAL WORDS

What final words inspire you? Or do you have any of your own. It's almost the end of the year, it is a good time to reflex what you have done. Any failures, disappointments?   I am sure there are, but it's not the end of the world. Pick up yourself and try again and hopefully next year will be a good year.
I have some scriptures verses that really encourage me.
The words from Paul, and apostle appointed by God. In 2 Timothy 4:7 he says
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
But prior to that he said "As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near."(2 Tim 4:6)  Such confidence, such faith. I wish I could be like him.
Perhaps the  most famous last words is from the Lord Jesus Christ, when he hang on the cross and breathe his last and said "It is finish"!   It meant He had accomblished what He came to do and nothing to be added to what He had done.  Thank you Lord. Amen.
