AN ONION A DAY.?

Got this in my email from my friend Tony. Some interesting facts about onions.I sure didnt know they could turn toxic left over night.

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that
visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu..
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very
healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different
the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the
rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't
believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under
the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu
virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping
the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several
years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were
many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions
around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must
work.  Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who
regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this
most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do
know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came
across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an
empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the
onion would be black in the morning from the germs. ..sure enough it happened
just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around
the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful
antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note.

Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame.
Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions absorb bacteria is the
reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is
the very reason we shouldn't eat an onion that has been sitting for a time
after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of
mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share
what I learned from a chemist.

Ed, who was our tour guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone
asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always
worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said
that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but
it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at
a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked
about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on
the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials
look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came
from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as
it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the
ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked
onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says
it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your
refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit,
that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you
put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut an onion and try to use it to cook
the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and
creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

my comments:An Apple a day.. keep the Doctor away.   An Onion a day will definately keep everybody away!
(but at least you stay healthy ma)

In pursuit of the beauty of God's creation

This post is inspired by a comment left by Eugene "am only enjoying the beauty of God's creation,"
It's no secret, I love shooting models and beautiful girls apart from Hiking and wall climbing.
Even when I hiked I will shoot the girls hikers, besides nature itself.
Some of the girls I had shot were introduced by friends, with a few who are my friends. It's easier to ask them for a shoot when you know them, but how to one approach a stranger?
I was having my dinner with my wall climbing/hiking friends one evening at one of those coffee shops where they have singers to entertain you while you "dine" there. I notice a couple of singers whom I thought will make good subjects for my shoot and had contemplating to approach them for my next shoot.  So one fine evening I was there early before my friend could not make it and so I had an early dinner and while coming out of the toilet I saw this singer sitting alone , browsing through some cds.  Suddenly all courage left me. I just couldnt do it.
I mean how to start a converstation? How to approach?   I don't want to be branded as a Dom.
Should I forget about this silly idea of mine or should I pursuit it?  What would be my best approach? Any ideas?

At the Park with a beautiful lass

This is my first time shooting this sweet innocence looking girl. In most event that I had attended the photographers have to get the model to relax before the shoot and even telling them how to pose. But it is the reverse with this girl,(at least to my observation) With her fun and sometimes michievous ways during the shoot, she was able to put us at ease.It was so fun shooting this model and I do not mind shooting her again. Another observation I noted she was very conscious of the photographers' presence and will turn towards the direction of the camera even without our prompting. Geneve Tan is her name. She is a full time manager at a company in Setia Alam, but does free lance modelling whenever she has the time.

YOU GOT EXPENSIVE HOBBY.

We were having a family dinner at a restaurant in Klang, which my son wanted us to try as he claimed the food there was good and reasonably priced. While we were eating I commented the one I had the day before at Rawang was not bad too . My wife asked why I did not take her there, to which I replied it was after our hiking trip and since she could not hike so how to bring her along?
She response with "you  got a very expensive hobby, paying to shoot models " I told her it was only around RM80.00 only ma and I don't always go on a shoot ,well maybe once a month  once in two months. She refuted it was more than that. Why do I  sense there is some sarcasm in her statement? But I kept quite and pretend(like they say in Malay "make don't know" lol) I did not hear her last remark. I know when to stop to avoid an argument. This is not something I learnt overnight, but through years of  making mistakes, and of course when you are older you become wiser or maybe mellow?
I told her how many more years do you think I have left? If I dont do the things I love now, when will I be able to do it?  You only live once, live it to the fullest.

CURE FOR HEART DISEASE,STROKE AND CANCER?

Not sure if there is any truth in this, but now I have more excuse to indulge in all these food, which I loved so much.
If an Apple a day can keep the doctor away, then I will say a yogurt a day will keep heart disease at bay. ?

Here is an interesting article in today's star on line-

WASHINGTON: People who drank low-fat milk and ate low-fat yogurt and cheese had a lower risk of stroke compared to those who consumed full-fat dairy foods, according to a Swedish study published in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke.
Nearly 75,000 participants 45 to 83 years old were free of heart disease, stroke and cancer at the start of the study.
All completed a 96-item food and beverage questionnaire to determine dietary habits.
Food and drink consumption frequency was divided into eight categories, ranging from never to four servings per day, reported China's Xinhua news agency.
During the 10-year follow-up, 4,089 strokes occurred (1,680 in women and 2,409 in men): 3,159 ischemic, 583 hemorrhagic and 347 unspecified strokes.

I HAVE FINALLY MOVED

Would you believed I actually used this pick up truck(toyota Ranger) below to move all my stuffs to my new abode?  The big items were  two, warddrops, kitchen cabinet, a fridge and two beds.  I only had two workers to help out.  18 trips and 5 hours plus to complete the task.  It would make life easier had we hire a one tonne lorry, but the General Manager would not hear of it. He wants to cut cost - Bah  another case of penny wise , pound foolish if I may say so. A lorry could save us the time wasted and the hours spent there. The workers could finish much faster and get back to their usual work.  As if that was not bad enough my request to allow my son who is also staying with me in the house to help out, was denied.(for reason only known to him) At least it will make things easier to have someone to show the workers where to load or unload(depending which location he is placed)  So I had to do everying the radiculous way, open the gate  load my "barang" into the pick up locked up, drove to the new place which is   about 300 km away, unlock the doors, unlocked , locked back again and goes to the old home. The process have to be repeated  18 times.  I was dead tired after this madness. Did not have time to unpack and arranged my stuff, until yesterday which was a public holiday. Thank God the factory was shut down for maintenance work, but my son had to work. So I did what was needed to be done, even manage to cleared the weeds and grass, creepers in the garden before I had my lunch. Then I reward myself with a long deserved massage.  It feeled so good under the skillful hands of the Masseuse.

IT'S A GOOD FEELING.

My wife wanted me to clear up my room to make room for a cupboard which my youngest son is using. He will be getting married soon and when the new furniture arrives, the old cupboard will make its way to my room.  I had an old pentium 4 computer gathering dust and I thought I  it will be better I give it to someone who has a use for it. I told my colleague my intention and yesterday when I  returned from my home town I delivered the gift to her. This morning she was thanking me profusely.  Apart from the PC I also gave to her children a radio which was  my wife's door gift from her company .She said her children were thrilled to bits and they stayed up till 11.00pm to play on the computer.  She told me her husband too expressed his thanks saying only God can repay. I felt so embarassed. I did not do it to be repaid or anything. Anyway it was a used set and I was glad they graciously accepted it.   I am just happy they do not mind an old and used computer.  But honestly it does feel good when people say thanks.  No wonder the Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. Just to be able to see someone happy , will be reward enough.

WHEN IT IS SEXY AND WHEN IT IS NOT?

I was with some photographer friends yesterday at the Botannic Garden,Putra Jaya clicking away, when a young chap came by and inform us to leave the place as soon as possible. Now what was his problem?
According to him, the model was too sexy? His reason was, it was a public place and some people might feel unconfortable at the sight of of the model. Judge for yourself was this  in any way threatening to their weak moral code? This is the sport wear and she was decently covered.

If the above was sexy  wait till you see her in this outfit?

Just don't understand all these people trying to impose their standard on others.  As the good book says if your eyes cause you to sin , pluck it out. Period.  By the way there was no incident of any nose bleeding during the shooting of this birdy.
