MY NAUNG CHALLENGE

After my last climb at saga, my friend challenge me to take on Naung. He did fore warned me it was not going to be an easy climb. It will takes about 5-6 hours uphill and another 5 down. Of course I quickly turn him down. But he convinced me to take up the challenge seeing that I had no problem with the saga hike. I did not give him an answer until much later when he created the event on face book and I changed my mind(I must have been crazy at that time) and confirmed my attendance. The date was earlier set on 8th August but was changed to a week later due to his other conmittment.
So the day finally arrived and we left klang at 4.30 am in order to rendezvouz with other hikers at the agreeded meeting point. At about 6.20am we headed for Naung .Arrived at around 7.05am and prepare for the climb. After some warm up exercise we started our journey, which seems like eternity. I have never walked so many miles in my life!. The road seems endless that leads to nowhere. just like the hollie's songs.
"The road is long, with many of winding turns That lead us to (who knows) where, who knows where?" First we arrived at camp Lolo ,where my friend shared some insight on how camp Lolo got it's name. Since it was 18XX I cannot post it here. Four hours later at around 11.00am we reached camp pacat. While at Pacat we met some small group who had given up half way due to the muddy and slippery trail. I was debating if I too should turn back. But then I thought to myself since I had gone this far it would defeat the purpose of why I came in the first place. So I decided to pressed on. I was not going to let some muddy route to discourage me.
After another two hours climb I finally reached the peak of Naung, 4900 feet above sea level at 1.05 pm It was a mixed feeling, a slight of relieve on my achievement and at the same time disappointment as there was not much of a sight from the summit.(unlike saga). After 15 to 20 minutes I make my way down.
Contrary to belief climbing down hill is easier than climbing uphill. It was just as tricky as climbing up. The wet ground make it slippery and I sipped a couple of times and even got my ankle bruised. While making my way down two of my friends were making their way up. so I have to be on my own . The reasons was due to the distant and we cannot afford to waste too much time(even for rest) in order to reach the base before night fall.
I thought I could meet some of my other friends who stayed behind at Pacat camp due to various reasons. But by the time I reached here , they had already left .So after resting a while I continue the journey down to the next camp which was camp Lolo. My this time my legs was aching and I thought I could no longer carry on and it started to rain so I took shelter at the shed there. I met two gentlemen who was with the scout movement and they offer me a ride down hill since they were heading that way to meet another team member. It was God sent. saved me another two agony hours of walking.I reached the base at around 5.00pm and waited for my two friends who finaly arrived at 8.00pm. Waited for them to shower ,changed and we make our way home. What a day. Well this is one event I do not want to try again. For onething I am not out to prove anything. I will consider this as one of the event ticked off from my list of things I wanted to do before reaching 60. My friend who invited talk me into this hike said if I could survive this hike ,taking on mount KK would be no problem. Thanks but no thanks. No more crazy long hours hike for me.
I survived this climb with ease was due to the fact I had a personal trainer at the gym who happen to be my dear God daughter. All the training paid off. Thanks Snow. I made it.

a view from the top

taking a rest.

at the peak, which was nothing to scream about

INDULGENCE

I did something rather 'sinful" tonight. The temptation was too great to resist plus I had good company in the form of a fellow blogger, so I gave in and indulged in one of the finest ice cream at Hagen Daz. It was heavenly ! I have forgotten how good ice cream tasted especially Hagen Daz.My companion said it was months ago since she last had ice cream. It was like forget about the calories, for now, enjoyed first and work-out latter! I had not been working out at the gym lately. My excuse was my shoulder was giving me problem. Well actually someone I consider as precious was giving me the cold shoulder lately, so not much inspiration to work out. Maybe in a couple of days when I feel like it. Anyway I will be hiking and climbing some hills over the weekend. so it should burn off those extra calories.

these are the causes that kept me away from the gym

STRAINTED RELATIONSHIP

How can a relationship which is begining to blossom can suddenly turned sour?
Do something stupid! Well that's what I did. It happened one day at the gym I playfully "slaped" on her face. in front of so many people. Her countenance changed instantly and she left in a hurry. As soon as I reliase that I sent her a text message to offer my apologies, but did not received any response. I waited a few days before I called her out for dinner and again offered my apologies and said something like "i am really sorry and assured you nextime it wont happen again" to which she retorted with 还 有 下次 ???!!! ( Next time??!! there aint gonna be a next time!!.) you should see the looks on her face. I knew then she was really angry and I dont blame her.She has every right to be angry.(even when angry she is still cute) Through out the dinner she did not say much, and even later when we went to the supermarket to get some fruits, i apologized again, but it was not acknowledged. The worst thing that can happen to a person is when he hurt someone he loved dearly and not knowing if he has been forgiven! what can I do to get her to forgive??? why is it so hard for her to forgive??!! My only "crime " was I loved her too much and for making a silly 'mistake" For that I was given the "death sentence"! Oh what have I gotten myself into??

Why is it when you tried so hard you end up hurt? Does it not pay to be kind and loving? Should I become cold and heartless in order not to be hurt this way again?
I dont think I can do this , as this is not my nature. Hopefully things will turn out alright eventually.(fingers crossed) Maybe time will heal as they say.

Lesson learnt:Never, never, Ever get too close to anyone because if you get hurt in the process you only got yourself to blame. But accept the responsiblity for your own action, dont put the blame on others.
Dont do anything stupid.

This will be my song for now

TRUE FRIENDSHIP

Seems like this question will always pop up. Who or what is a Friend? We will in some point of our life ask this question. I always tell people good friends are not many and true friend even less, but when you do find one value it.
Here is some interesting articles which I like to share.

Friendship is a gift of God. Some of us are blessed with good friends. But as it happens, these friendships are taken for granted in some cases and not valued. It is similar to a case of two couples. Say one has no child even after many years of marriage and the other has many children, more than they can manage. What do you think? Will the couple with many children value the children as much as the couple which has none? Everything is relative in life. We value what we don't have and give less valuable to what is freely available with us. Friendship is one such relationship. Why should we value friendships? What qualities does a good friend bring in our relationship that makes the friendship so valuable? Let us examine some of these. read the rest of the story here

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day one fellow met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?". "Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test.". "Triple filter?". "That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" "No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and...". "All right," said Socrates. "So you don't know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?" . "No, on the contrary...". "So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?" "No, not really." "Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

Lesson:
Well we can always participate in loose talks to curb our boredom. But when it comes to you friends its not worth it. Always avoid talking behind the back about your near and dear friends.

The Bible also has alot to says about friendship.
Proverbs is another good source of wisdom regarding friends. "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24). The issue here is that in order have a friend, one must be a friend. "Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses" (Proverbs 27:6). " As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).

my orbling experience

The day I have waited for finally arrived. today (Jul 26th) I was at the Gemas Golf resort, germas where this orbling event was held.
Orbing (or Zorbing), a crazy sport invented by the crazy Kiwis at New Zealand. An Orb Ball is an inflated rubber ball where you and your friend will be strapped/harnessed inside the ball and roll down a hill. This one I attended is 250m downhill.
My verdict? Thrilling, exciting and yet scary. I was told the wet orbling is even more fun. what they do is to add a pail of water inside the orb. I should have tried, but then I was just recovering from the after shock effect of the orb to consider. well maybe another time and maybe not.
At least I have gone through this experience of having tried this. This is one of those things I wanted to do before I hit 60 .
