MALAYSIA DAY HIKE 2018

This year's Malaysia day falls on a sunday. In the past years I usually does a run, maining because my boss always sponsor the run but since this year it falls on a sunday and I have already made pre arrangement to take my favourite person(,who happen to be the body combat and body pump instructor).  for a hike.So a hike it is. I am glad she is one that keep to her promise and as the day approach she did not stand up on me. One more girl was suppose to join me, but she injured her ankle on the eve of the hike so had to pull out. I had made lunch reservation for 3 at the famous beggar chicken restaurant here . Even though I had a few other friends joining the hiking, but all do not want to join us for lunch.
In the end both of us had to finish what was ordered. Anyway it was a good hike and we had a good time. She seems to enjoyed the hike too and I hope to have more adventures with her. Maybe I will get her to do some rock climbing with me next?

A CRAZY HIKE

The 4 taburs  photo credit:Faith Neoh

It all started with an innocent  suggestion, that we should try to hike all the tabur peak in a day. So when Ben finally agreed we set a date .There were many keen hikers, but as the days draw nearer one by one drop out. On the actual date one drop out due to mixed up with the event date another one could not come due to weather report that it was going to rain. On my way to the meet up point I notice the road was wet even though it was not raining. It must have rained earlier in the morning. Anyway having been here so many times, I know even if it rained Tabur will be dry and would not be difficult to hike.
We started our hike at around 7.00am  and crossed the stream to tabur west from  tabur east side. Took about 2.5 hours to complete. we back tracked and crossed the stream and continue with Tabur east and from East side we cut to Tabur Far east and then finally Tabur X and then return to East side to exit to where our cars were. All in it took us about 10.5 hours. It was longer than what we expected. Well, we did have a few stop to have some rest and snack. And also along the way helped some newbies coming down.  This is one crazy hike I will remember. I must also remember not to have any event on the event of another event. Good thing my legs was not so painful and I manage to have my rock climbing event the following day.

A STRUGGLE BUT TRIUMPHANT HIKE

Day 1 at Tusan Beach ,Miri
A 6 day/5 nights hike to Mount Mulu

Mount Mulu (MalayGunung Mulu) is a sandstone and shale mountain. At 2376 m, it is the second highest mountain in the state of Sarawak, after Mount Murud. It is located within the boundaries of Gunung Mulu National Park, which is named after it.

This is one of the most difficult hike, I had ever attempted. I thought Gunung Ledang(Mount Ophir(1276 M)Johore was tough, but this one was even toughter.  Double the height and longer and steeper trails. It was a struggle all the way.
Day 1 we arrived at Miri and spent a night there. We took a stroll at the Tusan beach hoping to get a  glimpse of the blue tears but no such luck. The next day we took a flight to mulu and began our adventure with little idea what was in store(at least for me) We arrived at the mulu park and did the necessary registration, before heading to camp 1 to spent a night there. Hiking to camp 1 was a breeze as it was flat ground all the way, but the rest of the camp site it was steep Eleviation all the way. We walk all the way to camp 3 and finally camp 4 where we spend another night there. Next morning we woke up at 3.30am to get ready for our climb to the summit and hope to catch the sun rise.Unfortunally half way before we even reach the summit the sun was aready up. We spent a couple of minute taking photos and then it was all the way down to camp 4 to pick out bags to go all the way down to camp 1 for lunch. I had a hard time walking and also was helping another slow hiker whom I met half way.She was suppose to start her journey at 8.00am to camp 1, but got off track that was the reason of her delay. Anyway I knew I could not catch up with the rest and had decided to stay a night at camp 3 and to continue the next morning to join the rest of the team members. The girl too decided to stay over the night at camp 3. We make our way down to camp 1 the next morning at 7.00am We had planed  the precious night to start at 6.00am, but somehow she was sound asleep, and so I did not want to distrurb her. Anyway by the time we reached camp 1 at around noon time, the team had already left. We did not meet her. In the meanwhile  the porter caught up with us.They were fast as they only start their journey at around 9.30am . Since they showed up, I left the girl to their care and make my way to the park, and then finally to the D'cave home stay where the rest of the team members were there. We had dinner after the girl finally arrived and shared our experiences. Had a good sleep which I did not get any during the previous two nights due to the coldness at the camp site.  It was some adventure. would I consider coming back again? well I might, and this time I would know what to expect and come prepared.

ROAD TRIP TO SOUTH

Originaly this trip was suppose to happen last year during one of the holiday with sifu, but she feared the heavy traffic jam on our way back, so it was defer to this year. The new plan was she will attend her company's meeting at singapore and meet up somewhere at Johore Baru, before we head to the Rockworld climbing gym. Anyway that did not happen, so I inviting another rock climbing friend and another good hiking friend. We agreed on the date and all was set to go. Then just a few days before our planned trip the hiking friend informed her boss required her to work on the day of our trip, so I offer to another hiking friend who on the morning of the trip did not pick up my calls. Later she replied saying she never mention she wanted to go in the first place. Then why she did not say so from the very start and why she asked all kinds of question. I just don't understand this type of people. She was in our group chat and during the chat should have make it cleared and then exit from the chat if you have not interest. You can be sure she will not be invited for my future trips  Anyway I am thankful for the girl call moon, who was good with her promised and kept her appointement and turned up on time at my house. Just the two of us we make our way to Johore after our breakfast. We left around 8.30am and reached  past noon at the restaurant where our friend Eric was waiting. After lunch we make our way to Rockworld which was nearby the restaurant where we had our lunch. I was very impressed with this new gym. This was my first visit to this new place since they moved in.Previously they had two gym ,one at Desa cemerlang ,where both Eric and I had our training course. For me it was a refresher course as I had attended one at camp 5 before except for the lead climb which was an additional.  Since I had never done  a lead wall course before , I took the course. The other gym they had was at kulai jaya sport complex. I was there on their official opening a few years ago.
We had to leave around 6.00pm as the gym had a private fumction around 7.00pm.  Eric had to accompany his father for dinner, so we  make our way to Johor Jaya where we had our dinner and wait for him to finish his date with his father. He came around 9.30pm and followed him to his house where we stayed for a night.  We got up around 8.00am and after shower went for our breakfast and then off we went to Pulai Hill 2 for our climb. We got there around 11.00am. This is the first time I had ever hike so late in the morning. Good thing it was shady in the woods,  This was my revist to this hill after leaving Johore for more than 3 years.   Here are some of the photos of our trips.

SLEEPLESS NIGHT & MORNING HIKE

It was the first day of New year, I just had my coffee before I went to bed. I was suppose to hike with a friend the next day. So I retired early at around 9.30pm.  But I did not get any sleep and laid tossing to and forth until 3.30am. Was it the coffee or something in the head that kept me awake. Was I having too much to think?  I usually had no problem with tea or coffee before bed time. Anyway I tried to get some sleep and finally gave up at around 4.00am as I had to start my drive to the meeting point at 5.00am. It takes me an hour to reach there. So I thought I might as well get up and  get ready to drive to rendezvous with my friend. I was like a walking zombie, but thank God I did survived the hike.It was a a back to back hike. The Tabur west andTabur East.Total of 6 hours or so. The reward as usual was a sum[tuous lunch at a nearby restuarant. Our main course was the famous begger chicken and winter melon soup which every one enjoyed. Here are some of the shots taken during the hike

MULU :THE PINNACLES

Ever since, I saw my friends' posting on the pinncles, mulu, I was attracted to it's beauty and wanted to make a trip there. The day finally came, and I was able to fullfilled my dream from April 4th till 7th, 2015.Thanks to my beloved body combat instrutor, Irene Ang, who made all the arrangement. We left Klia2 on Air asia to miri, and connected with mas wing, which is only half an hour flight.

From the airport we were pcked up by our guides to the mulu national park, where we stayed for a night. We had some activities like watching the bats and the next morning we did some cave exporing before we head to camp 5, which is near to the pinnacles. It was a long 9km hike to our camp site.

We started our hike at 6.00am. and reach the peak around 11.00am ,stayed for half an hour before making our way down. Make it around 4.10pm

Here are some of the photos of my trip.
